Due to means "a result of" and follows a linking verb (such as be, become, seem, look, feel, and sound).
Moonlight, regardless of what the poets say, is due to the reflection of the sun's rays.
Due to meaning "because of" should not be used as a preposition following a nonlinking verb. Replace it with because of.
We found our way back home due to the moonlight shining on the path.
