It seems like every time one construction project gets finished, another one starts! Nowadays, it's nearly impossible to travel for even 1 mile without seeing construction barricades on the roads. Population increases lead to growth, but sometimes it seems more of a setback than a good thing! Construction brings noise and dirty conditions, but there is no way around it. It is important to remember that sometimes dealing with inconveniences with construction in the short term will lead to years of pleasure in the long run. Although sometimes hard to see initially, construction brings growth, which brings jobs, which brings growth in the economy. An end result of win- win for everyone.
Driving around town can be especially frustrating when there are construction problems. If you live in a high growth area with lots of car traffic, road construction can really snarl up the commute. If this is your situation you need to try to remain calm and in control of your emotions. Traffic problems can make an already stressful day seem that much more so. Don't rush. Just take a deep breath and take it as slowly and safely as the situation calls for. Plan ahead if possible to allow yourself extra time. Find alternate routes that you can take. Speeding or driving erratically through a construction zone is not only dangerous, it is also illegal and you could find yourself slapped with a fine. There are special laws for construction zones designed to protect you, the other drivers, and the workers.
With increased population, comes an increase in housing construction. Areas that once were orange groves or tree farms are now being cleared to make way for houses and apartments. Construction of housing is loud and chaotic, with many trucks going in and out of construction sites. It is a good idea to use caution when traveling in any housing construction area.
Commercial construction is yet another area of concern. If they are building a new shopping center, office building or factory in the area where you are traveling you need to take extra precautions. Big equipment like cranes, graders, and bulldozers take extra room to turn and may also drive more slowly. Try to move away from them if possible, and if not just make sure that they know you are there.
As cities continue to grow, so will the number of construction sites. No matter where you live, construction is a sign of continued growth. Although it is sometimes an inconvenience, it is important to remember that growth is good for our economy, and keeping your cool while dealing with growth and the resulting construction is a must. Always remember to exhibit caution around a construction zone, as the construction workers are putting their lives on the line in busy areas every day so we can enjoy the fruits of their labors. Respecting their safety by driving at safe speeds through any kind of construction zone is crucial in keeping everyone safe.
