For me, there is no other vacuum cleaner than an Electrolux. Perhaps you can call it brand loyalty, but, you see, I learned how to vacuum clean at the ripe age of 6 using a 1940~s deco-style Electrolux vacuum cleaner with runners instead of wheels. The machine would glide over the floor while I held the shiny chrome at the top of the woven nozzle and learned the womanly art of housecleaning like a proper girl in the 1940~s. Even today, the chrome and sleek style of this model of Electrolux is synonymous with Art Deco styling. Because of these memories, no matter how well built any other American vacuum cleaner is, in my mind there is only Electrolux.
Where did the vacuum get its origin? In the late 1800s - according to the online early vacuum cleaner museum website at http://www.vachunter.com . During this time, vacuum cleaning was not a regular activity until Queen Victoria of England introduced it as an indispensable household cleaning tool. During Queen Victoria~ reign, a plague went wild in the Royal Navy barracks so she, being a forward thinker, hired H. Cecil Booth (the inventor of the large engine-powered vacuum cleaner) to devise a vacuum for regularly cleaning the palace. Booth's machine cleaned the naval barracks of ~truckloads of dirt~ and rapidly the plague was broken. Soon after that, people began associating dirt as germ harboring source and a stable tool for household cleaning was born.
Does the noise of a vacuum mean the cleaner is working properly? No, there's not connection. The ability to suck up dirt has little to do with noise given off by the vacuum. According to Electrolux ( http://www.electrolux.com ), the noise of the vacuum cleaner is one of the most annoying sounds to people in a household and their neighbors. In fact, a newer, quieter model should replace your vacuum if it makes a lot of noise. Many vacuums are usable for 20 years or more but the newer models are purposely to be 4 times quieter than older models as result of the designs by appliance manufacturers. My favorite manufacturer Electrolux recently introduced a new quiet model called Ultra Silencer.
The ultimate in modern vacuum cleaning technology is Electrolux's Trilobite model which cleans on its own and is named after a prehistoric sea creature that cleaned the bottom of the ocean. The improved Trilobite 2.0 adds 200 design improvements over the original Trilobite vacuum cleaner. The consumer can program their Trilobite to vacuum an area at a certain time and day. This low and round automated cleaning machine will vacuum all the open space in the room, whether it is hardwood floor or pile carpeting, and avoid all furnishings and stairs. This delightful little machine is capable of cleaning edges well and is small enough to lift dust bunnies from under the bed or couch.
Other companies make quality quiet and automatic vacuum cleaners as well. I'll just never forget the shiny chrome of that old Electrolux.
