BACKGROUND
The ranks of vegetarians are growing as more doctors and nutritionists recognize and promote the health benefits of consuming less meat and more vegetables, fruits, and grains. In addition, some are turning to a vegetarian lifestyle to protest the needless slaughter of animals.
