The aim of this analysis is to study two products presented as exampled of new design, in categories “mobility” and “prosperity”, consider the issues they are addressing, and discuss their strengths and weaknesses.
The first product, listed in “mobility” section, is called IDEA plug-in hybrid electric fleet vehicle; it is an electric vehicle which can work both on electric energy and in hybrid regime, using fuel as well. This product, in my opinion, first of all addresses environmental issues, such as the need to switch to alternative sources of energy, to reduce pollution of atmosphere and heat generation. Also, the vehicle is aimed to provide better cost efficiency of traveling.
Indeed, this vehicle uses rechargeable batteries, and it is likely that use of such cars will reduce the environmental damage coming from vehicles. Also, if these vehicles are used by a great number of people, the problem of diminishing resources of petroleum could be partly solved. In general, this vehicle may be considered as successful invention; however, there are several issues that might prevent its market expansion. First of all, the initial price of this vehicle could be too high for the majority of people. Secondly, the hybrid mode seems to be a quite ambiguous decision. Thirdly, the cost of electricity needed to recharge the battery should be considered, and the environmental cost of producing this energy has to be estimated. Thus, further analysis is necessary to decide whether this vehicle is truly environment-friendly.
The second product is called Heath ceramics; it shows tableware made of clay which uses eco-friendly materials and combines high quality and prosperous look with well thought-out design. In my opinion, this product first of all addresses the issue of increasing waste that contaminates the nature. The idea carried by this design is that the future of such products is strongly impacted by design and choice of materials, and it is quite necessary to use as much natural materials as possible. I believe that look and style of these products might encourage people to use such tableware and reduce the amount of items made of artificially created materials which decay for a long time and pollute the nature. I think that this product is highly successful, and combines great design with equally bright and important idea. The strengths of the product are evident; among possible weaknesses may be the sensitivity of such tableware to pressure and high temperatures which limits its use. However, I believe that this idea is a successful one.
