In February 1998, in Australia’s capital Canberra was held Constitutional Convention, most delegates favored the abolition of the British monarch’s power and turning the country into a republic. For Britain the loss of authority over Australia will be a great loss. This is a huge country, stretching from west to east for almost 4000 kilometers, and from north to south for 3700 miles. Its main wealth is minerals – the availability of natural resources in Australia is 20 times higher than in average country. Therefore it is possible to suggest that Britain will struggle to retain its control over Australia until recently.
