Effective professional healthcare communication will lead to positive health outcomes. Warisse and others (2004) stated that in order that a process of co-operation of patient and the medical profession will be effective, it is necessary to know its medical, sociological and socially psychological bases. Basing on above presented information we see that lack of personal and professional communication could contribute to poor health outcomes. Essence of intercourse consists in the process of joint activity and communication between people reflected in a contact, is conditioned by individual features of subjects, social situation, dominant behavioural strategies, aims of participants of co-operation and possible contradictions. The concept of intercourse gave the name to whole direction of social psychology for which the study of vital functions of personality is characteristic in the context of social co-operation (mutual action). The interactive aspect of intercourse plugs in itself the varied problems of people’s co-operation. In obedience to the interaction theory, development of personality is carried out in the process of socializing of individual with the members of certain social groups during joint activity. Thus, the actions of individual are always oriented on other man and depend on him. In spite of the fact that intercourse is examined in psychology as a type of activity, it is fully possible to distinguish it especially. Intercourse is always accompanies activity of interactive individuals, thus, by “activity in activity”. Productive intercourse favourably influences on joint activity. Unproductive intercourse can vice versa interrupt productive activity and lead to poor health outcomes.
Any co-operation includes in itself plenty of actions as functional units. At all variety, they consist in the long course of conduct, most characteristic for this subject. Taking into account character of co-operation in the process of intercourse of subjects was undertaken an attempt to define the basic indexes of its specific characteristics for type of conduct declaration. There were distinguished two such indexes: attention of man to interests of other people and attention of man to own interests. On correlation of orientation on itself and on a partner, it is possible to judge strategies of co-operation of man about development. Usually distinguishes five basic strategies of co-operation: rivalry, compromise, collaboration, adaptation, avoidance. Within the framework of modern psychology, a question about assertive behaviour and assertive personality is actively examined – it is the special integral description of man, showing up in an orientation on a compromise and collaboration as leading strategies of co-operation. Assertiveness characterizes personality of mature person, who knows exactly, what he wants and what wishes has, and can to express them without aggressive reactions in relation to other people. Assertiveness supposes ability of the medical personnel to protect the interests and defend the rights of patients, not hurting rights of other people.
Berry (2007) shows us that it is necessary to remember “six core issues that need to be taken into account when planning any health communication:
1. the purpose of the message;
2. the state of mind of the intended recipient(s), including their cognitive abilities and emotional state;
3. the general context or climate in which the message will be received;
4. the medium of communication to be used;
5. feedback mechanisms to assess the effects of the message;
6. monitoring and evaluation.”
Co-operation in the system doctor-patient, must answer to the one of basic principles of assertiveness, which supposes very attentive relation of subject of co-operation to itself and to the partner and must underline self-respect of subjects of intercourse.
For the conclusion, it is necessary to say that there is no doubt, that co-operation of doctor and patient and their communication is many-sided process. In my opinion, it is a large complex of psychological and morally ethical problems with which a doctor has constantly to clash. A patient and doctor are equal in rights participants of medically diagnostic process. I strongly believe that the choice of right method of treatment, success of treatment and, in final analysis, the life of patient depend from the professional level of doctor, from being informed patient, level of trust and consent between them.
