The revision is an essential element of work on an essay. This is why, when I have read my peers essay, I started to revise it. Basically, I focused on two aspects to revise form and content. What is meant here is the fact that at first I attempted to check the entire essay for possible errors and find out ideas and sentences which may be vague and misleading for the audience. As all my ideas conveyed in my essay became clear and concise, I revised the form, i.e. the style of the essay and the presentation of the author’s ideas. I attempted to make the ideas run fluently, making good transitions from one idea to another to convey the general message of the essay to the audience. The aforementioned revision and changes proved to be essential because they made the essay easy to read and comprehend. In addition, they helped me to find out drawbacks in the course of writing that helped me to improve my own writing skills. In addition, the revision and changes were essential to make the essay concise and convey the author’s ideas to the audience clearly. The revised draft turned out to be much better compared to the initial essay. As the matter of fact, the essay became better structured, more logical, less repetitive and more concise. In addition, I have managed to convey the author’s message clearly to the audience. While revising my peer’s essay I learned a lot. In fact, it was not just the revising-editing techniques that I have learned in the course of the revision. Along with the revising-editing techniques, I developed my analytical writing skills because I viewed my essay critically. Moreover, I started to evaluate my personal development and myself critically.
On revising my own essay, I have revealed the fact that it has both strong and weak points. In my opinion, the strongest point of my essay is its structure and the diversity of ideas conveyed in the essay. I attempted to present my self-assessment as diverse as possible to uncover different aspects of my personality and my self-assessment. On the other hand, I have revealed the weakest point in my essay, while revising it. The weakest aspect of my essay is the lack of fluency, while transitions are not perfect and I did not really like them, when I revised the essay. At the same time, it was quite difficult to me to stay focused on the main course of the narration because, when I started to analyze my personality, I started to slip toward different ideas and aspects of my personality. As a result, it was difficult for me to stay focused on my self-assessment writing. Instead, I attempted to focus on specific aspects of my personality, while I needed to convey all my ideas in a solid, clear text, where ideas ran smoothly. This is why, in my next essay assignment I would start with creation the plan of my essay. In such a way, I would avoid pitfalls I have faced while writing my self-assessment essay. At the same time, while writing my self-assessment essay, I have learned to think about my audience, whereas in the past, I used to think over my ideas only. As a result, my essay became more audience-oriented.
