Speaking about the course and the most interesting areas for me, I’d like to mention that I never thought before about those great impact that three great monotheistic traditions had on the global cultural traditions, and especially on the background of western culture. Western culture itself was mostly developed from the monotheistic Christianity, while most of the Eastern religions were polytheistic. I think the roots of the distinction between Western and Eastern philosophies and ideologies are closely connected with the dominance of monotheistic and polytheistic tradition respectively. The contrast between Eastern and Western cultural traditions largely pertains to the differences between monotheism and polytheism.
I’d like to study the issue of religious diversity and its impact on the cultural tradition more deeply. Some researchers tell that different religious positions still have an influence on the ethnocentrism and xenophobia in the contemporary society. Sure, in the modern period of globalization every cultural borders become vogue and different cultural traditions mix together. However, the religious tradition is one of the starting points of building the social identity for every person or group, so they should be studied carefully. It is known that the ethics of many religions are at least partially responsible on the destructive actions of some social groups in the modern world.
Besides, it would be interesting to study the issue of elementary religious chauvinism in different social groups and compare it with other signs of intolerance. Almost all monotheistic religions contain some chauvinism in its bias, and it would be interesting to analyze the link between religious tradition and stereotypes of social behavior. Currently these areas are the most interesting for me.
