For hundreds of time the Gospels have been supporting the faith of all the Christians, telling the story of Jesus’ life and his ministry. One can find a detailed description of his preaching and suffering in four gospels according to Mark, Matthew, Luke and John. The first three are known as synoptic gospels and are believed to be very different from the Gospel of John.
The liberal and the conservative theologians have different points of view concerning the trustworthiness of these Gospels and authenticity of all the biblical literature. The liberal Christians think that the Bible was written in order to promote certain religious ideas while the conservative Christians stick to the opinion that the Bible is devoid of mistakes and the authors were inspired by God to write the Gospels. Taking into account, the obvious differences in the synoptic gospels and the Gospel of John, assuredly, conservative and liberal Christians have absolutely different approaches to them and the information they comprise. Due to great differences between the gospels considered, the liberals suggest that either synoptics or John should be rejected. They believe that synoptic gospels have meaningful information, while they don’t find any actual Jesus’ sayings in the Gospel of John.custom term paper
The conservative Christians support the idea that both synoptic and John gospels are true but their discrepancies are due to the description of different episodes of Jesus’ life. Mark, Matthew, Luke and John focused their narration on different events which do not exclude one another. As far as they consider all the Gospels inspiring the spiritual development of people, they tend to concentrate on the Gospel of John as more theological and basic for Christian beliefs.
To make a conclusion, if we consider all the differences between the synoptic gospels and the Gospel of John, we can see that the first ones are more focused on the description of Jesus as a human being and contain many parables. Therefore, they are more historic by nature. The Gospel of John describes Jesus as a deity and all the events are regarded from this point of view. Therefore, this Gospel can be considered a purely theological, which is aimed at the support of Christian faith.
