Custom essays on Movie: Girl Interrupted. Character Profile Response

A film “ Girl, interrupted” is a screen adaption of the book “ Girl, interrupted”, which is a memoir of Susanna Kaysen. In this true story, the author speaks of her experience as an 18-year-old patient in a psychiatric hospital in the late 1960’s.
A film depicts the behaviors and treatment of the mentally ill, takes us on an excursion into lives of the heroes: Susanna, who “voluntarily” checks herself into the Claymoore Hospital after an overdose of aspirin; Polly Clark, a burn victim; Georgina Tuskin, a pathological liar; Daisy Randone, who has an eating disorder; Janet Webber who is an anorexic; and others. And Lisa Rowe (played by Angelina Jolie )- a girl, affected with an antisocial personality disorder, having great power, authority, influence in the film, is the brightest character.
Lisa is introduced as an angry, very aggressive girl, who apparently takes some pride in her diagnosis. The character of Lisa Rowe is diagnosed to have an antisocial personality disorder, as her person seems dramatic, emotional, and erratic.
First of all, Jolie’s character is angry and erratic. We can see it in a scene in the psych ward. Looking out, Suzanna and her roommate Georgina see of a girl struggling with a policeman and being aggressive. So when Lisa enters the ward, she corners Suzanna, questioning her about ex-roommate Jamie. All the while, the nurses are trying to keep Lisa in quiet, but cannot do it quickly. Also Lisa is proud of her diagnoses, she mocks her doctors and refuses to take her medication, so she is aggressive with the public as well.
Jolie’s character is eccentric, as she has an unusual, peculiar, or odd personality, with set of beliefs, or behavior pattern.
We see Lisa Role as young, beautiful and full of seductive charisma and cynical sense of humor. She feels alive and free, as she says: “You think you’re free? I’m free! You don’t know what freedom is! I’m free! I can breathe! And you – you’re going to go choke on your average mediocre life!”, “If I could have any job in the world I’d be a professional Cinderella”.
Lisa is Susanna’s befriends, in her eyes Susanna saw herself, believed that they were very similar, and tried to follow her words and actions. In the final view, the main character has changed dramatically, with the result that she realized the opposite, and she had a desire to prove it. She was able to prove that she is not like Lisa, as she saw that the consequences of Lisa’s actions are dangerous, she didn’t want to be like her.
Susanne and Lisa are the two opposites. At the end of the film Susanna tells Lisa that she is “already dead” and her “heart is ice cold”. Susanna wants to start her life again, out of the hospital, without Lisa and everyone else.
Lisa is a “death”, because she has lost sense of life. She is not dead, didn’t kill herself, she was able to withstand the bitter truth, which told her Susan. And Lisa says “I’m not really dead”.
So Lisa Rowe is the most bright, powerful, the most striking character in the film “Girl, Interrupted”, being eccentric and unusual, peculiar and odd.
