I want to start with saying that I agree with the group’s decision to keep the article “Our man ordered waffles, but paid for tools of war” by Warren Richey. I can explain my decision. The article deals with several important modern problems at a time. Even without giving us any ideas about possible solving the problem and directions of needed actions, the author pays our attention not only on the problem of frauds through the Internet, but also the problems of terrorism, insecurity of credit cards, accessibility of war weapons, and omission of FBI. All these problems are enrolled into one single story, which is interested to read.
The second article under consideration is called “How a Bookmaker and a Whiz Kid Took On a DDOS-based Online Extortion Attack”, the author is Scott Berinato. It’s more difficult to decide whether I agree or disagree with the group’s decision to keep it, because the article is more useful and interesting for site-holders, but not ordinary users. But I learnt much new from the article and for sure don’t regret I read it. I am surprised that anyone who can lose money by being offline is a potential online extortion target. According to the article, it is believed that “now different sets of hackers are engaged in an arms race to see who can build the biggest zombie network”. And they do it not just to compete with each other, it’s a way of making money, kind of business – to rent them. When I read that I could be a possible accomplice of hackers without even knowing it, I felt scared. For sure it was rather useful to read this article. Besides it has happy end and I’m proud of the work of Scotland Yard and Russian government. I would agree with the decision to keep the article.
The suggested article is called “The Future of Viruses on the Internet” by David Chess. In this case I would totally agree with the group’s decision to add it to the list. Viruses are one of the most important up-to-date topics to be discussed and problems to be solved. And the article under consideration is very reasonable and well-founded. The author predicts “two major trends in Internet technology that will have an impact on virus spread in the next few years: one is the increasing ubiquity and power of integrated mail systems, and the other is the rise of mobile-program systems”. Information given in the article is useful and should be analized and well-understood. I would decide to add this article.
