Crito is a short dialogue by Plato. In this dialogue the author describes the meeting of Socrates and his good friend Crito. Socrates is imprisoned and will be executed soon. Both, Socrates and Crtio know that accusation is false and Crito wants to persuade his friend to escape from the prison and to avoid death. Socrates refuses. He speaks about moral obligations and obedience to laws. Socrates knows that accusation is facilitated but he believes that obedience to laws is an obligation of each citizen of the country. Laws make mechanism which saves the country from anarchy and even when these laws are used for bad purpose nobody still has moral right to break them. This can break fragile order in the state. Two characters of the dialogue have strong arguments and each of them supports his position. Crito speaks about multiple disciples of Socrates who will be very disappointed by his death. Crito is also ashamed because he is afraid that other people will blame him when find out that he did nothing to same his friend and teacher: “…people who do not know you and me will believe that I might have saved you if I had been willing to give money, but that I did not care” (Plato).

He also speaks about possible use Socrates could have brought to the state and people if had escaped. I believe that Socrates is write in his choice. He sacrifices his life for the sake of his moral principles. Socrates does not want to follow advices of his friend. As he states: “And he who disobeys us is, as we maintain, thrice wrong: first, because in disobeying us he is disobeying his parents; secondly, because we are the authors of his education; thirdly, because he has made an agreement with us that he will duly obey our commands; and he neither obeys them nor convinces us that our commands are unjust; and we do not rudely impose them, but give him the alternative of obeying or convincing us; – that is what we offer, and he does neither” (Plato). He wants to live and die in accordance to the principles he believes and he proves his position with his own life.
