Today information is becoming one of the most valuable and the most actively used products in different spheres of business. While the business conditions are rapidly changing, and at the same time information technologies are developing very fast too, there is a need for new methods, strategies and tools of management. Such a widely used system is now the so-called management information system (MIT). The first and foremost mission of the MIT is to make the process of organization management more effective and efficient; mostly it refers to internal processes taking place in different units of the company. For that the three general resources are united: human resources, technologies and information itself. It goes without saying that in this triad no component can do without any of the other two. To be more specific, management information systems include a number of methods for managing information in order to support human decision making processes with automatic programming and for analyzing the information systems in different operational actives.
In fact, automatic reporting has brought plenty of new opportunities to the decision making and overall management process.

Earlier, internal reporting was not systematic and regular; it was made manually and thus took a lot of extra time and effort. Hence, it could not be effective enough to be well analyzed and comprehended. With time, the information technologies got more involved in the process of producing, gathering and analyzing the data, and thus the management information system was formed by decision support system; project management; resource and people management applications; customer relationship management; enterprise resource planning and supply chain management. All the employees as well as clients can not only supply the server with information, but also take part in editing it and influence all sorts of information processes.
Management information system is first of all planning of how to collect, process, store and disseminate data. Besides, when the managers produce plans and projects of further organization development, information gather through information technologies are applied not only to see what in reality differs from the plan, but also to realize the reasons of the alterations and construct probable models of further behavior.
Further, life cycle of system development is presented by the issues of analysis, requirements formulation, design and development, verification and implementation. From this point of view, management information system is regarded as a tool for producing fixed and regularly scheduled reports. These reports arise from the data gathered and summarized from the special tools – the underlying “transaction processing systems”. The data is intended for the managers of the middle and operation levels in order to find solutions for the structures as well as semi-structured marketing problems.
All in all, management information systems turn out to be very useful in highlighting strengths and weaknesses of the organization, and thus when there is a clear picture of what is taking place in the company’s departments, it is easier to make constructive conclusions and consequently to improve operations. What is more, MIS is considered to be a progressive tool for communication and planning, and also for taking to account the needs of the clients in a broader sense; the MIS is a way to perform direct marketing and promotion activities. After all, when each operating region reports, it provides the ground for predicting buying trends and behaviors through the sale and revenue analysis.
