Buy an essay on An integrated critical review of two research studies

S. Lambert (2004). “Shared Attention during Sight Translation, Sight Interpretation and Simultaneous Interpretation.” Meta: Translators’ Journal, vol. 49, N. 2, pp. 294-306.
In the article “Shared Attention during Sight Translation, Sight Interpretation and Simultaneous Interpretation” Lambert emphasized the fact of pedagogical necessity of sight translation inclusion in any cognitive approach to a simultaneous-interpreter training program.
Aim of Study
It is the aim of this article to determine the types of information processing and performing of sight translation in comparison to both simultaneous and sight interpretation on their base.
Research questions
Research questions of the study could be finding in area of the three main types of interpreting definition and then their comparison. It is mean that sight translation is compared to sight interpretation and simultaneous interpretation. All three types have their specific features and that is why their detailed research has obligatory character for this study.
Methodology
In Lambert’s article we see that during the research were used special texts and then on their base was conducted experiment with an aim to achieve specific purposes of the research. In some parts of research we see that an author takes for basis of the researches the system of co-operation of auditory and visual signals, which simultaneous translation is based on, in obedience to audio signals, by means of which a speaker passes a report the receptor of which is an interpreter.
Data
This part of our review allows us to talk about data presented in the Lambert’s study. Students were taken as the main participants of the experiment in this study. Students were at the same level of translation training in their University and also all of them had three month’s term in simultaneous interpretation. All students as their second language claimed French and it becomes understandable that English was claimed as their first language. All participants were at the same conditions during experimental work and interpreted special texts from their second language (as it was above mentioned – French) into their first language (English). The whole experiment lasted about 40 minutes and during this time all participants (students) performed the three specific experimental tasks with respect to validity of the experimental study in the same order and time.
Results
The analysis of results allows us to state that they show us differences between various types of interpreting. Estimating results of the experiment in this article we see that during sight translation there was integration of processes presented, when a translator perceives a visual signal, converting it in a verbal signal in the moment of transmission to the recipient. It is possible to look after equilibrium of temporal and spatial aspects in those cases. In addition to this section of review I want to add that in the article were presented tables that summarized results of the study in easy way.
Weakness
Summarizing information and experiments results of this article it is possible to say that like each type of interpreting sight translation and interpretation have its strong and weak sides. Lambert demonstrated important moment in limitations area that shows necessity of the further work in chosen area. Thus, a situation with researches of sight translation is really considered ambiguous. From one side, this type of translation comes into the notice of many scientists both in our country and abroad. Moreover, sight translation is used in the program of study in many interpreters’ faculties, though it is presented there variously. On the other hand, practically all authors examine this type of translating activity through the prism of other types of translation, thus, it is indirectly researched in different ways.
Both M. Agrifoglio and S. Lamberts have few similarities and differences. They have similar issues in terms of their explanation of sight translation and interpreting. Their differences were based on the research questions and results. They both talked about sight translation and interpreting in different ways and both coming out to be the truth.
For the conclusion it is necessary to say that throughout this report, the main aspects of sight translation were explored, and also there were discussed different points of views on the sight translation and its necessity in professional activity.
