In the middle of the humanities is a person and everything connected with person’s work. One of the central components of human activity is communication, and verbal communication is an integral part of human communication within many organizations. Nowadays many organizations have a diverse workforce and it greatly impacts on a level of interaction between patients and their family members, employees, co-workers and others. Thus, we are going to consider team and group communication processes that have a place in the organization of my interest, and then it is necessary to identify improvements that could be made.
First of all it is necessary to mention that health workers always seek the ways to improve communication with patients and their families, but sometimes differences in their culture, gender and individual characteristics make it very hard to both sides. For instance, often, time constraints, fear and lack of skills lead to the fact that the information which radically changes the lives of the people is portrayed in the cold, unfeeling manner; or constant contact of the doctor and nurses with a disease may blunt the professional sympathy for the person or the family first learned of the diagnosis.
It is unprofessional to be rude or cold with patients because exactly these issues have a great impact on how effectively different treatment tasks are done within organization, and the result of treatment is also depend on these factors of understanding and communication between healthcare workers and patients.
The website of Institute for Healthcare Communication stated that “communication underlies successful healthcare. Until recently, though, healthcare and medical training paid little attention to the development of communication skills. Too often healthcare professionals have had to rely on whatever innate communication talents they already possessed.”
Communication – is a way to send information from one person to another, it is one of the ways to bring the individual some ideas, facts, thoughts, feelings and values. The purpose of communication is to get the accurate understanding of the host sent messages. The communication process always involves at least two people – the sender and receiver, and both of them should percept the information in the proper way.
It is well-known fact that different cultures and different genders have some problems in their communication and my organization is not an exception. I would like to say that there are both female and male employees within the organization I work. This fact allows to suppose that not all relations are formal between employees and sometimes there are some problems in our team. According to American Academy on Communication in Healthcare, “research suggests that problems with teamwork can result in devastating and costly medical errors, as well as adversely affecting staff morale.”
