The one of the most controversial and debatable issues of our time is a global warming. The discussion about the global warming involves scientific community, global leaders, society opinion leaders and common people.
Concern about it is growing among the general public and opinions about it are formed under the influence of various articles, researches, etc. Some people sure it’s a fact, when other people are confident that the global warming is actually a myth, it means that as any other phenomenon it has its own supporters and critics.
It is known that the discussion about the threat of global warming harm became more intense recently and it includes both political and scientific aspects in it.
Basic information and definitions of “climate change” and “global warming”
In 1989, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued the first reliable assessment of the impacts of greenhouse gases. The study, which proved remarkably influential, provided a review that linked emissions, greenhouse-gas accumulation, climate change, and economic and quality-of-life impacts. In effect, the report created the perspective that drives current policy – the view that climate change would cause great economic damage and great damage to our quality of life. Although it was limited to the United States, the conclusion that subsequent analysts reached, based on the study, was that the damages resulting from climate change would be universal and devastating
Global warming is the increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere caused by greenhouse gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone. (Uzawa, 2)
According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, “a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity and alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods.” (Uzawa, 2)
What’s actually happening? Global warming is that energy from the sun heats the earth, which radiates the energy into the earth’s atmosphere Atmospheric greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide, trap some of the outgoing heat in the earth’s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide emissions are reported to persist in the atmosphere for several centuries and, thus, have a lasting effect on climate. (“Global Warming: Both Sides” 64)
