Middle age is the period of age beyond young adulthood and before onset of the old age. There have been made middle age categories from 35 to 44, and from 45 to 54 years old, while Erik Erikson, prominent social scientist, sees it ending later and defines middle adulthood between 40 and 65 years old. It usually occurs between 40 – 60 in a person’s life. A lot of different attempts were made to define this age, which is approximately a third quarter of average lifetime of people all over the world. That time of people’s life from youth till the old age, the years between 40 and 60, also called midlife.
As a fact, middle age adults very often show visible signs of their aging – for example graying of the hair and, usually loss of skin elasticity. But all people age at different time and there can be rather visible differences between people of the same age, of their behavior and mood. These problems lead to depression sometimes, and it should be avoided, because such problems are not so important in reality, it is just that middle age adults try to find a way out and criticize themselves a lot.
As a fact, male and female fertility usually declines with the age. At them middle age of adults it is very important to find a work and life balance. This really goes on a long way because the work defines success of a person, which he needs a lot during the middle age. Person should constantly change something in order to make life interesting and different every day. Something new should be added to a person’s everyday routine to survive and to live a real happy life. And this is a reality.
Midlife crisis is a period of dramatic self-doubt that is felt by some people in their “middle years” or middle age of life. A result of the middle are – sensing the passing of their own youth and coming of their old age. Middle age is a period of grief for some people, unemployment, even underemployment. As a result people start to think and analyze more often, trying to understand what to do and how to live and what to live for. Many have a desire of significant changes in life.
People, who face a midlife crisis, usually have some of such feelings:
search of some illusion dream or goal
desire to be young and a feeling of youth
a necessity to spend more time alone, in the own thoughts
They usually behave like that:
abuse of alcohol
a decision to buy unusual and expensive items as jewelry, motorbikes, clothing, sports cars, gadgets, boats etc
depression
blame themselves for their failures and dreams that didn’t come true
wear “younger” clothes and pay more attention to physical appearance
some enter relationships with younger people
place overimportance on their children to excel in areas such as sports, music, foreign languages etc.
