The aim of this paper is to create a survey questionnaire for a Regional Physician Network which would serve as a basis for rough estimate of intranet project needs. The survey will consist of 20 questions and will be sent to stakeholders via e-mail.
What facts and opinions do you think are most important and need to be collected at this initial stage?
At this stage it is necessary to estimate the needs of stakeholders and their perception on intranet. Basing on the functionality that stakeholders require, estimates of technical means involved, security issues, accessibility and grants to the new intranet have to be considered, necessary bandwidth and devices for connecting the intranet have to be outlined, as well as the data that will be stored there and potential obstacles also have to be identified.
Who are the stakeholders of this project? How could you select the stakeholders to be surveyed?
The stakeholders of this intranet are: physicians, medical directors, registrants, nurses, patients and possible the employees of insurance companies. Currently, the primary focus has to be on medical staff such as physicians and medical directors; however, the limitations of the system need to anticipate inclusion of other stakeholders and expansion of the intranet. Selection of stakeholders for this survey will be a random sample from each group of medical staff so that the proportion of professionals in the sample resembles current distribution.
What kind of questions do you think would work best? Open-ended or close-ended?
Since this is a survey for rough project estimate, the primary need is to see the real picture and to know the vision of major stakeholders. Thus, it is necessary to focus on open-ended questions, or mixed type questions, where respondents may submit own variants of answers. However, the key issues should be studied using close-ended questions and clear variants of answer. Also, questions related to personal characteristics of the respondent need to be close-ended.
How many pages should the survey questionnaire be in order to get necessary information without discouraging the participants?
