Jean Watson developed her theory in the time when patient-centered and community-care approaches have just started to emerge. Her ideas proved to be progressive for her time and today they are extremely popular. She developed a humanistic caring approach to nursing practice. At the same time, her work was innovative for her time because she was one of the first theorists, who have managed to develop nursing theory which goes beyond the health care setting and involves the social environment of patients and community. Today, these ideas are very prospective and many of them are implemented in modern nursing care.
