There are some issues that are associated with human sexuality in the age of middle adulthood: aging, decrease of sexual desire, growing amount of single people, lack of energy and other (Crandell 2009).
Aging is one of the most important issues, because it includes health problems also. Adults at their middle age often have problems with blood pressure that rises too easily. Any little feeling of anger or irritation can cause the increase of blood pressure immediately. Doctors explain that, as people become older, circulation worsens thus bringing about hardening of the arteries and rising of blood pressure (Karras 2008).
Such health problems affect not only the sexual life of adults of middle age, but other areas such as family, social life, work and so on. It influences the ability of making the right decision. When emotions are involved in the thinking process, it is difficult to concentrate, think properly. And work is affected in the way that it becomes difficult to move when a person is agitated, irritated. The community life suffers because of it also, because misunderstanding happen because of aging issues.
The second issue that is connected with sexuality of people in middle adulthood is getting tired very easily. It becomes difficult to do usual every day exercises, to walk. People of middle age feel the lack of energy during the day and at the end of the day. They come home after work very tired and don’t have any power and energy to spend time with family. Such people have to lessen engaging in intimate activities with their partners. It happens because of the fact that the heart pumps less efficiently, as people grow older, making exercise a lot more difficult (Balswick 2003). So, the heart muscle is unable to propel large quantities of blood quickly to the body, thus, resulting in tiring quickly and taking longer to recover from it (Balswick 2003). This issue influences community life, as a person doesn’t have any energy to participate in social activities.
So, aging and the lack of energy are the main issues that are associated with people’s sexuality in period of middle adulthood and that effect all spheres of person’s life.
