The work in Runaway Youth Shelter, TX proved to be very useful for me, especially in terms of the development of my managerial and leadership skills. At the same time, my major concern was counseling work because I decided to join Runaway Youth Shelter in Texas because I was eager to help and counsel children, who escaped from their homes. On the other hand, while working with this children and attempting to implement my counseling skills, I revealed the fact that they need a strong assistance from the part of a meaningful adult, who can not only understand them but also guide and lead them toward the consistent change in their life.
In fact, many children I have been working with in the course of my work in Runaway Youth Shelter were abused by their parents and they feel anxiety, when they communicated with adults (Dessler, 2004). At the same time, they have a strong distrust in regard to adults. Therefore, to implement counseling techniques, I needed to gain their respect and prove them that I am a leader, who can help them to tackle their problems successfully (Hesselbein & Cohen 1999). In this regard, I had to work hard and to develop new skills and abilities to develop my leadership skills.

Nevertheless, I have learned that I have to be self-assured, confident in my ability to help children and guide them to positive changes in their life (Northouse, 2001). In such a way, I demonstrate my leadership to children and they followed my lead. After that I could implement diverse counseling techniques which helped abused children to cope with their problems.
