Stanley: What would you like?
Happy: A glass of bear, please.
S: Ok, – he pours a glass of bear and passes it to Happy saying – Had a hard day?
H: Well, yepp. I guess so.
S: It happens…
H: It happens to often. As far as I remember, my father had always hard days only.
S: A hard man he is.
H: I wouldn’t say so – Happy replies with a heavy sigh.
S: Really, why?
H: Well, you know how it happens. One works all the day long, he works hard and hopes the day will come and he will be rich and happy. But, as the matter of fact, that day may never come.
S: But if it comes?
H: Well, I can hardly believe. At any rate, this is not a case of my father. – Happy takes a large gulp of bear and leans on the bar stand, looks down, and keeps staring thoughtfully for a moment. Then he raises his eyes and looks up to Stanley fixedly – By the way, do you know my father well, don’t you.
S: Well, not exactly, no well enough, you know…
H: And I know him pretty well and he is definitely not the guy who can be rich and happy one day. He is a moron who works all his life and he has got nothing but his dream that will never come true.
S: What a dream?
H: Well, you know, he was always dreaming of getting rich. The old man though he could get a top position in his company but, instead, he got nothing. He is nothing now.
S: What do you mean?
H: You know, as I’ve told you, he worked hard all his life. He always told us that someday he’ll become rich and takes the top position in the company. And do you know what he’d got?
S: Ne-ah… – Stanley takes a glass and starts cleaning it thoughtfully but he is definitely more focused on the glass than on the conversation and the story about Will.
H: He’s got fired.
S: Really, why?
H: ‘cause he is an old moron, who is running out of his mind. You know he’s got fired but it seems as if nothing has changed in his life. He has no prospects, no career plans, no future but he still believes that he will succeed. He is just a stupid old man, a crazy one, I would say.
S: Wow, you’re tough with your father.
H: Well, I just know him too well. You know, he is crazy because he believe that hard work brings wealth and happiness but he worked hard all his life and got nothing, while his brother, (decreasing the pitch of his voice Happy adds – a lucky bastard) has being rich since his youth, even though he has never bothered with hard work, career and all the staff:
S: How’s that?
H: Well, just a piece of luck – he moved to Africa having a few dollars in his pocket and found there a tremendous wealth. Now he is as rich as no one has ever been in our family.
S: Good for him.
H: For sure, but he’s done nothing to get everything, while my father did everything but got nothing.
S: It happens…
