Herpes Simplex virus is a widely-spread virus which affects a considerable part of the population. At the same time, pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to the development of Herpes Simplex infection. At this point, it is important to lay emphasis on the fact that the virus can be transmitted from mothers to neonatal babies, who can catch the virus in the course of the delivery. In such a situation, the research of Herpes Simplex virus in pregnant women is extremely important because it helps to understand the way of the development and spread of the virus as well as to work out possible ways of the prevention of the spread of the infection.
In this respect, it is possible to refer to the study “Maternal and Neonatal HSV Infections” conducted by L. Corey and A. Wald. The researchers studied the HSV in pregnant women and they researched the development of the disease along with the transmission of the HSV to newborns. On conducting their research, the researchers stressed the fact that from one-third to two-thirds of pregnant women in the US suffer from genital infection of HSV.
The researchers used a complex approach to the study of the HSV in pregnant women and newborns. To put it more precisely, they started their research from the in-depth analysis of the essence of the disease, its symptoms, epidemiology and clinical manifestations. In such a way, they laid the foundation to the specific study of the HSV in pregnant women and newborns. In other words, the researchers shifted from the general analysis of the disease to the specific manifestation of the HSV in pregnant women and newborns. The general analysis of the infection helped the researchers to uncover the main symptoms and manifestation of the disease as well as to develop general approaches to its treatment and prevention.
The focus of the researchers on the development and manifestation of the HSV in pregnant women and newborns allowed the researchers to identify specificities of the development and manifestation of the disease in the target patients group that was under the research.

At the same time, the identification of specificities of the HSV in pregnant women and newborns helped to lay the foundation for the further research of the problem. Moreover, the research conducted by Corey and Wald contributed to the development of the development of effective ways of the prevention of the disease in pregnant women and newborn. In this regard, the research was extremely important, especially taking into consideration a large share of pregnant women suffering from the HSV.
The researchers paid a particular attention to the prevention of the disease, especially in pregnant women and newborns. In such a way, the complete the goal of the research for they did not simply studied the HSV but also developed the effective mechanisms of the prevention of the disease. At this point, it is worth mentioning the fact that the prevention of the HSV among pregnant women may be crucial in regard to women’s health and the health of newborns.
Thus, taking into account all above mentioned, it is important to lay emphasis on the fact that the study conducted by Corey and Wald contributed to the better understanding of the HSV, especially in pregnant women. Moreover, the research revealed effective mechanisms of the prevention of the HSV in pregnant women.
