In the psychic development of a child language and speech skills formation are among the most significant. It language skills provide communicative, generalizing and regulative function helping to the child to place himself within the society. Language disorders, which could be related to as some kind of mental illnesses, significantly influences the whole psychic aspect of the child’s life as the communication with the surrounding world becomes more difficult and complicated, and very often prevents normal formation of the perceptive processes and impact on the emotional-will sphere. The investigative processes investigating these types of mental disorders started in the end of the 19th beginning of the 20th century. “Expressive language disorder is generally a childhood disorder. There are two types of expressive language disorder: the developmental type and the acquired type. Developmental expressive language disorder does not have a known cause and generally appears at the time a child is learning to talk. Acquired expressive language disorder is caused by damage to the brain. It occurs suddenly after events such as stroke or traumatic head injury. The acquired type can occur at any age” (Davidson, 2010). It goes without saying that such language disorders could significantly and negatively influence on the life of a child that is why it parents should pay attention to the development of language skills of their child in order to bring up physically and mentally healthy person. The symptoms of language disorders are the following characteristics. Expressive language disorders could be identified in the child, who has certain difficulties in thoughts expression with the help of the speech. Scientists consider that the signs and symptoms could vary in different children. The child, who does not have problems with pronunciation as it happens in phonological disorder. The child still have problems with creation of the sentences, using appropriate grammatical structures, recalling proper words or other similar problems. Children having expressive language disorder are nit able to provide complete thoughts, wants or needs at the same level or same complexity as his or her peers. It is essential that children with such type of disorder express the same ability o comprehend speech as their peer and it is not surprising that he or she has the same level of intelligences Children also could understand the words which they could hardly use in their speech and even comprehend the complex spoken sentences and be able to follow the appropriate instructions without an ability to create complex sentences during their speech. It goes without saying that there are a number of other different ways in which expressive language disorders could signify themselves. Some children do not appropriately use pronouns; miss the articles or functional parts such as the verb “to be”. The other children could not express the words they would like to use or recall them, using generalizing words such as “stuff”, “thing”, “this” and others. The quite typical sign of the language disorder is that children could hardly organize the sentences and make them easy understandable. These children do understand the material they are expressing to the others, but in fact they could not create the appropriate sentences, which express the thoughts they want.
The statistical data show us that the expressive language disorder is not rarely meet in the present day world and there is no actual way to prevent it: “Expressive language disorder is a relatively common childhood disorder. Language delays occur in 10–15% of children under age three, and in 3–7% of school-age children. Expressive language disorder is more common in boys that in girls. Studies suggest that developmental expressive language disorder occurs two to five times more often in boys as girls. The developmental form of the disorder is far more common than the acquired type” (Davidson, 2010). Unfortunately, the scientists consider that there is no direct way to prevent developmental expressive language disorder, ‘cause the acquired language disorder could be caused by the brains trauma and there is no way found to prevent such a thing brain damage is. The only way to prevent physical injury of brain is to keep the accident prevention when riding a bicycle, skating and having other active rest.
In the end I would like to make a stress on the fact that understanding of the normal language functioning, means understanding what are the typical disorders met in the present day world. It would be very important to note that the contemporary methods of treatment language disorders give brighter perspectives to children. That is why the parents should be very attentive to their kids and noticing the first signs go to the doctor for more thorough examination as it would help to form healthy psychic of the child.
