In everyday life, people receive new information from various sources: from media, from the environment, from other people etc. The aim of this essay is to consider personal experience of receiving messages and ideas, and to determine the key idea that influenced me.
Actually, during yesterday there were two more or less related messages that seemed important for me and led to deeper thoughts, and one message that was interesting, but was not considered very important. The first message was about the wedding of Hillary Clinton and tight security during the wedding. That was curious to know, but did not seem an important message for me.
Secondly, extreme heat and all friends and relatives complaining about this pushed me to view weather forecasts and top temperature rates during last years. It appeared that during this year July temperatures have beaten almost all the records of extreme temperatures (Rice, 2010), and I have witnessed that average temperatures are constantly rising. Actually, this was the main fact that impressed me a lot – since it is possible to hear everywhere about the global warming etc., but to analyze real statistics and to feel this warming by oneself is much more vivid. The above-mentioned facts made me think over the future of Earth, and the inevitable changes of the lifestyle that will be required from us. It looks like these changes are going to appear in near future already.
Third message was the interrelated to climate changes information about Obama support of US climate bill. It was not the fact that President supports bill concerning climate legislation that stroke me, but the history of that bill, and the fact that it was rejected and considered to be a “national energy tax and jobs killer” (Pace, 2010). Although accepting such bill may indeed result in higher taxes and higher unemployment, but rejecting climate legislation will lead in long-term perspective to situation when Earth could not longer be our Home. I believe that preserving the planet for us and our descendants is more important than short-term perspectives of earning more revenue, and if all people do not realize this and act accordingly, soon the planet will be quite a sad place to live in. Such thoughts and conclusions were the most important messages for me yesterday, since these facts directly influence our life, our future and the future of our children.
