Musical theatre is a mixture of theatre, music, dances, songs and spoken dialogues. It is a combination of music and drama or comedy, depends on genre of the play. I would like to discuss in this paper the use of popular musical theater as an instrument of propaganda in any given age.
On the modern stage of development of society the actual task of the personality-oriented education is education of a person, initially directed on the acceptance of other personality. According to Bauch (2003) a capacity for empathy occupies one of the main places in the structure of child’s personality, in cognition by the children of surrounding reality. Empathy is basic incentive force to the action of personality in society. However, today self society brings child’s personality to the destructive processes. The decline of spirituality, overvalue of moral values, social stratification of people etc., cause negative rejections in development and forming of feelings, emotions in any age and children age is not an exception. Therefore, among the variety of tasks of all-round development of one personality the leading role in the development of emotionally-perceptible person is given to emotional sympathy. In this context the use of popular music theatre is a possibility to influence on people, to open their hearts to other people and it is an instrument of the best values propaganda.
Thus, taking into account the role of musical theatre in our society and the way how it could influence on people (I mean through our eyes and ears at the same time) we could determine it as an effective instrument in the development of not only emotional, but also intellectual spheres. For the end of my paper I want to quote Oscar Wilde words, who said that “I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”
