The article tells the story about the Savage family which wanted to have the third child. Sean and his wife Carolyn and Sean tried hard for 10 years to have the third child before they turned to IVF. But in a tragic mix-up, another couple’s embryo was implanted into Carolyn’s uterus. It was a difficult situation, but after some thinking the Savages decided not to abort the baby and after the birth to relinquish him to his DNA parents.
Such cases, when fertility clinic makes a mistake and implant the wrong embryos into women’s uterus are very tragic and cause a lot of problems. Dr. David Adamson, who is a reproductive endocrinologist, said that such cases happen, but rather rare. Every year more than 100,000 embryos are transferred in the USA. And such tragic facts happen once in several hundred thousand transfers of embryos. Such groups, as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine have strict protocol recommendations for in vitro procedures, which they obey in order to prevent mistakes with embryos.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most common type of assisted reproductive technology (ART). This method generates many disputes and touches ethical issues. But the mistake that was made by the fertility clinic is against medical ethical principles. This mistake changed the life of the Savages, made them choose between abortion or giving the birth to the child who was not their. Carolyn and Sean needed to make decisions about the destiny of the child, so they gave back the baby to his DNA parents. Carolyn said “We knew if our embryo had been thawed and negligently put into another woman, we would expect that the child would be returned to us.”

Such mistake of the clinic cost a nightmare for the Savages.
The case that is described in the article shows how the IVF system is imperfect. There are a lot of laws which regulate this sphere, but still such lurid cases happen. On my opinion the government should adopt more strict laws and make better control of fertility clinics. Such mistakes should be prevented.
