I would like to discuss Thai New Year’s festival that I visited not so many days ago. I want not only discuss this festival with more details, but also express my opinion about this event and share with you new knowledge that I received during festival. I also want give short historical information about this event and inspire you to visit it next year.
This year Thai New year’s Festival took a place on Sunday, April, 4 and I decided to visit it with great pleasure. Frankly speaking, it is real New Year that received the title Songkran and even do not looking on that fact that the number of year is replaced in night of December, 31 on January (the system of chronology in Thailand is conducted on a Buddhist era which on 543 years is more senior than Christian), Songkran remains an official new-year holiday for this pore. It is a bright holiday for Thai people and according to historical knowledge and attending it I can note that Songkran is considered the most important holiday for Thai people, because its old tradition is concluded in ceremony that consisted in pouring of water in a palm in order that bad acts and ideas flowed away together with the water. Thailand is a Buddhist country and that’s why Thai population respect their traditions and among them we can find one more tradition when with the water people slowly pour the shoulder of the man so that it flowed down on his back, and at this time kind wishes and benedictions were pronounced on forthcoming New Year.
Saying truth, I want to say that I found many interesting things for myself and among them I can mention that I was greatly impressed by the fact that there were very many monks at this holiday and all people around were speaking, playing and singing in Thai. People brought many various food for donation and they also donate not only food, but also money to Monks, because they respect them and remember that Buddhism is integral part of their way of life. One more interesting detail can be noted in fact that it is family day for Thai population and young people, who are working in other cities come back home to visit their parents, relatives, and friends. I like Thai tradition to gather together with their families, because family for Thai people is very important part of their life and their happy smiles show me that they were really glad to see each other on this holiday.

Returning to the above said it is necessary to add a holiday is not limited by the tradition of dousing water. Historically Songkran is the holiday of love and respect, day which Thai population use for the aim to meet own families and friends. The morning of Songkran is begun with a hike in a temple, where the refined home treating prepared beforehand are presented to monks, underlining the same the respect to them as to the teachers and tutors. After returning from a temple time of the second part of new-year ceremony comes is ablution of domestic statuette of Buddha by clean water with the petals of roses and jasmine. Then as a token of respect to the senior members of family pour water on their hands. After this ceremony a family sits down for a festive table, to enjoy a festive meal.
Discussing my emotions I want to mention that I liked real photo exhibition and on many photos I saw historical periods of Buddhist culture, because on many photos were pictured monks and their faces were full of love, peace and conciliation. On some photos I also saw different pictures from festival and all of them were bright and very beautiful. As a part of the festival it was provided the contest Miss Thai (white top and skirt). In my judgment all girls were beautiful and all of them were deserve to receive first place in it.
Thus, based on all above said I can conclude that Thai New year’s festival is a big event of the whole year for Thai population and they prepared to it carefully and with love. I’m happy that I found possibility to visit this event and I want to say that I liked this festival very much. I received a lot of positive emotions during the time which I spent in the frames of this festival and I changed my attitude to Thai tradition in the best way. Now I feel great respect to Buddhist religion and in my opinion it is very important part in the life of every person there. I feel that people respect their historical roots and I can recommend visit this festival to all people who want to feel true happy emotions and become closer to the culture and traditions of these people. I think that all people are part of one big family and such holidays as Thai New year’s festival remind people the true essence of this word and make them closer to each other due to its tradition and warm atmosphere.
