Buy essay on THE AMERICAN SOCIOECONOMIC SYSTEM

The purpose of this paper is to analyze and discuss the American socioeconomic system from a sociological viewpoint. It is necessary to do on example that can explain this question with more details. I also want to connect this topic with the question of social stratification and social mobility. I want to use for example the film Pretty Woman that is popular all over the world and reflects all above mentioned problems in full degree.
Analyzing this film from sociological viewpoint it is necessary to mention that issues of social stratification are very brightly described in it. This film reminds us that social inequality is inevitable in any society.
Let’s mark out that on account of inequality society is looks like a “puff pastry”, in which it is possible to select a few social layers, differentiating on the level of welfare of people or on the degree of their material well-being vital blessings. As we know such dividing of society into layers (striations) is named social stratification. An aggregate of the social moving of people in society, i.e. change of their status, is named social mobility. According to this approach social stratification is an aggregate of the social layers located in a vertical order (striations).
Analyzing the film Pretty Woman from above discussed positions we should mention that social stratification is noticeable from its title, because the title Pretty Woman already from the beginning influences on emotional disparity between rich businessmen and their perceptibly cold women. In a center of all actions are talks about money, they determine and thought of owner, rich businessman Edward Lewis. His hairs are barely touched with the first grey hair, he has elegant appearance, but he is obviously burdened by the insipid life. The main character of the film has high socioeconomic status and one day he met a poor girl who was a prostitute. It is a bright example of social stratification and then in the film we saw how pretty girl from low class tries to enter higher society of rich people. After some actions main characters, I mean rich man and pretty woman found understanding and now it seems normal to Vivian, that Edward works, and she enjoys old films on a television set. But it becomes already clear that interests each of them are different and it took place due to their different education and way of life that is explained by the term social stratification.

Social mobility is showed in film through the way how Vivian become the important part of Edward’s life and how she learned to understand his surrounding, business circles and honorable ladies. Edward does not stop to be surprised by Vivian’s natural carelessness, because her behavior is strange for him and it contradicts to his world perception. And Vivian from her side not only stops to be afraid of him but also tests sympathy to him. In this situation we see how two different worlds found each other and try to understand each other in spite their differences.
In my opinion the film Pretty Woman is successful example of the American socioeconomic system and on its example we can percept it through the prism of comedy and in easy way. Every socioeconomic status influences on the personality development and creates typical behavioral stereotypes, but we should mention that if person want to achieve something in this life it is necessary to move in the side of success and develop own personality don’t taking into account conditions of life and social status. For the conclusion I want to say that people with strong character and innocent soul should fight against obstacles and win their struggle.
