The causes of the Industrial Revolution were complex and remain an issue for debate. The Industrial Revolution changed Americans from farming people to very industrialized ones. They began to work in plants with the help of different machines. This shift took 50 years and caused a striking change in the economic history of the nation. In 1870, the population was about 36 million people. Seventy percent of the population was farmers. In 1900, the population was about eighty million people. This was due to the better way of living and thanks to the technological and medical breakthrough. Americans were becoming more and more educated. And the whole country observed the immigration of people from all over the world.
Organization’s ability to employ many workers for cheap encouraged the industries’ growth. Labor unions forms when people start working for cheap. Also, new inventions with growth in business caused the process of industrialization. The growth in large-scale industry can be explained by broad markets and quick expansion, causing a rise in demand for many products.
America in that period of time might be called a growing country. The western migration needed industrial recourses. The railroad encouraged the industries of steel, wood, coal, rubber and glass. Except the expansion west, the growth of industry was caused by better economic times and an increase in population due to food growth. People wanted more different “stuff” and houses needed to be built as well.
