“Legally Blonde II” and “The Devil Wears Prada” are interesting and very emotional movies. Moreover the bosses of both girls are strong willed and purposeful women, who definitely know what they want and would do anything to get it. The main character of the movie “Legally Blonde II” Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon), a young and extremely ambitious lawyer, finds out that the mother of her small chihuahua dog Bruiser is in danger of death in the animal testing laboratory and makes up her mind to go to Washington D.C. and fight for animals’ rights in order to prove that America is the land of the free. At first her boss seems to help her, but soon it becomes clear that she is engaged in intricate intrigues and that she tries to prevent Elle from following her plans. The main character of the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a smart young woman, who has recently graduated from the university and came from the Midwest to New York to work as a journalist. Unfortunately she faces certain difficulties to find the job she wants at once, so she starts working in a very glamorous and prestigious fashion magazine “Runway” hoping to get good references from her powerful lady-boss in a year or so, which would help her to find the job she dreams of. Alongside with multiple similarities there are a lot of aspects to contrast in these movies. Although the main characters of the movies Elle Woods and Andy Sachs have much in common their personalities have some differences too. Elle knows how to have fun: she is cheerful, joyous and even a bit light-hearted, while Andrea seems more serious and thoughtful. The plots of the two movies have different love lines within them. Elle has wonderful and stable relationships with her boyfriend, who supports her in her career. They love each other and are going to marry. Meanwhile not everything is so simple in the relationships of Andy and her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Grenier). Nate loves Andy, but he doesn’t understand why she has to work as assistant in “Runway” if she dreams to be a real journalist. They even break up, when Andy goes to Paris with Miranda. The friends of the main characters act differently too: while Elle’s friends come to Washington D.C. to help her, Andy’s friends try to persuade her to quit and come back to Nate. Finally both girls reach their goals, nevertheless the attitude of their bosses towards them are not the same: Miranda Priestly, the boss of Andy Sachs, gives the necessary references for her to find a job she dreams of, while Elle’s boss remains hostile towards her.
“Legally Blonde II” and “The Devil Wears Prada” have really much in common: the story line of self-confident, smart, well-educated and highly ambitious girls following their goals, similar personal characteristics of their bosses and the entertaining process of taking challenges in their careers. Although after watching these two movies we get the similar feeling of joy of life and belief in the strong will and great personal abilities of a human being, there are certain differences between these movies, such as specific traits of character, relationships with boyfriends and the final attitude of their bosses towards them.
