I want to tell you some facts about world hunger, that you think are right, but in fact they are all myths.
Myth 1. The world produces not enough food. Reality: The planet produces enough food to provide everyone, including meat, vegetables, fruits, fish and other products. The problem is that people are too poor to buy their own food. Many of the “starving” countries have sufficient stocks of agricultural products and even export them.
Myth 2. We can blame nature. Reality: The problems lie in the economic sphere, low wages and unemployment, and in the social sphere-centered performance, rather than compassion.
Myth 3. It is impossible to feed so many hungry people. Reality: Despite the fact that rapid population growth in the third world countries is a serious problem, never and nowhere population growth does not lead to famine. Hunger is caused by social and economic inequality: the rapid population growth is dangerous only to states where there is public and social mechanisms to ensure that a majority of the country’s people have access to education, medicine, employment, social security systems, etc.
Myth 4. The more food is produced, the more environment suffers. Reality: Of course, such a risk exists, but its extent is exaggerated. Attempts to feed the hungry by themselves do not lead to environmental crises.
Myth 5. The problem of hunger can solve the “Green Revolution”. Reality: The “Green Revolution”, which implies in particular the appearance on the fields of new plants (hybrids and genetically modified organisms), massive use of fertilizers, new methods of cultivation, etc., certainly helps to fight hunger. However, focusing only on increasing agricultural production does not solve this problem. The root of evil lies in the distribution system of the already available food.
Myth 6. Free trade – the best medicine from hunger. Reality: modern history has shown that this statement is nothing more than a myth. In most third world countries international trade is growing, though the problem of hunger exists. Quite often, local food producers prefer to sell it to buyers from wealthy countries, because their countrymen are not able to buy their own food or can buy it only at very low prices.buy term paper
Myth 7. The hungry people are satisfied with their situation and therefore did not protest. Reality: Starving people spend all their energy only on the physical survival. They do not have time, money and resources to organize mass protests in Tibet. However, the lack of protest does not mean that the problem does not exist.
Myth 8. Increase of humanitarian aid can solve the problem of hunger. Reality: International assistance can only alleviate but not solve it. Too often aid gets to the corrupt members of local elites and does not reach the hungry.
So, I hope that my arguments about the problem of hunger as a global one and one of the most important have convinced you. It is important that we can solve this problem only by union of actions all over the world, so everyone can contribute to this. But I am an optimist. I am convinced that one day we will succeed and that overcoming hunger and malnutrition will end in success!
