Custom essay on Why I cannot live without science

From its very beginning, my day starts with the help of a scientifically devised mechanism – an alarm clock or cell phone having the same function. I need some stimulus to get up on a workday, those devices either wake me up so that I am not late for the classes, or they allow lying in bed for some time if I happen to wake up earlier than usual and might worry about the time. Next comes the plumbing that provides the house with water and gas supply. Washing and cooking is also impossible without scientific devices and mechanisms.
I switch on my cell phone and look if I have been called or sent a message. I might call my friends, family, or soul mate. I turn on my laptop and check the incoming emails etc. All those actions would be impossible without a certain level of scientific development of the country – the soft- and hardware of the mobile and computer need certain maintenance and methods of usage that are worked out on the basis of scientific investigations and experiments.
In the evening or in the afternoon I make plans for the next day, I make certain hypotheses and suggestions, and then plan activity on their basis.
Science improves the quality of life in many various ways. First of all I’m typing this task with the help of the computer. This device facilitates many human activities and even the whole aspects of life. First of all it is very useful for studies, it also allows expanding the sphere of communication – we can speak or correspond with many friends and even from other countries. Various household appliances – dishwashers, clothes washers, refrigerators etc – make our life easier and more comfortable, so that we can, without losing much time, keep our clothes and dishes clean, food fresh, house illuminated and heated, our health properly diagnosed and treated.
If the science were withdrawn from the modern world, in my opinion, the latter would stop its existence, because nowadays practically everything is tightly linked to science.
The most negative impact of the science is that it is impossible to live without it. It cannot be even imagined what would happen, if the people somehow lost the chance or ability to scientifically think. The first thing that comes to me is a huge nuclear explosion – for all the missiles and bombs that are possessed by some countries require careful maintenance and certain conditions of keeping. The productivity of labor really increases, but the people do not have less working hours then they had before the introduction of computers. For instance, a device is implemented into some kind of production. An employee is manufacturing the final product 10 times more than before – but neither his / her working day shortens 10 times, nor salary rises proportionately. So the innovations are more useful to the proprietors but not the workers and employees.
In our epoch in is impossible to survive both for me, and, I guess, for the rest of humanity. Too much things depend on science – world economy, medical care, agriculture. The earth just would not be able first of all to feed seven billion people, many would die of minor, let alone serious, ailments. I would not be able to communicate with the majority of people, I’d be confined to my house, street, district.
Due to the course, I understood how tightly the science is intertwined with all our activities and aspects of live. Scientific style of thinking is inherent in human nature, and it is science that most of all contributed to the comfort, quality and standards of our life.
