Low Uncertainty Avoidance
The amount of employees that want to be managed according to standard procedures and rules is uncertainty avoidance.
Countries were the uncertainty avoidance is relatively low are more flexible in terms of guidelines, approaches, rules, and structures.
What are the major advantages of this cultural attribute? In my opinion, it great when people feel comfortable in unstructured environments.
They are able to create and develop new approaches, new ways, new technologies; they are open to the new ideas and to the overall progress.
Companies that have low uncertainty avoidance level are more tolerant to the different ideas and views.
The other advantage of the low uncertainty avoidance level is the ability to take a risk.
These companies that are able to take the risk, these players, are more likely to succeed in the modern global society, where time is money. The formal procedures may take too much time and decision may be made too late.
Among the cultures with relatively uncertainty avoidance index I can name the US and the UK.
High Individualistic
I need to emphasize at once that there should be some common clear goals in any organization and the employees have to operate in order to achieve them. But I suppose that high level of individualism allows company to become the leader, especially if works in the new innovative sectors of economy, not the traditional ones.
The major advantage of high individualistic organizational culture is that the task k prevails over work relationship. As a result, company will achieve better results when the employees are concentrated on their tasks.
Employees should not be robots; they should be able to act on their own in order for their company to succeed; their ideas are valued in the company. Their thoughts and ideas may be very useful; a high initiative level is very efficient way for the organization to become a trendsetter.
I have to mention the issue of responsibility. In the high individualistic organization each employee knows his individual responsibility therefore he/she acts accordingly, i.e. efficiently but carefully.
Also, the success of organization depends on the success of every worker, workers are rewarded for their results on independent basis and it really improves their motivation.
The “individualism” most popular in the following cultures: Americans, British, Dutch, Italians and French.
High Feminine Index
Femininity as an organizational characteristic is good for the harmony, for communication processes in the company, for creation of the nice pleasant work environment.
The quality of products and services are the major values in the organization with such cultural attribute.
The high feminine index means the high levels of solidarity and equality in the companies.
It also guarantees a higher loyalty to the company, the company’s management is more likely to be respected and their actions will not be judged straightforwardly. In the case some mistake is made by the company’s managers they will be given another chance to improve the situation.
It’s interesting that the Netherlands are perceived as the most feminine country in the world. By the way, France also has a high index of femininity.
