Custom essays on Is deliberated opinion the real public opinion?

The main topic of this paper is to talk about public opinion in the frames of today’s reality and taking into account its historical meaning and historical context of its forming.
Public opinion is difficult to explain without taking into account mental states of people. Characteristically, the first public opinion poll during the election campaign was conducted in 1824 (in the U.S.).
However, scientifically grounded surveys relate only to the presidential elections in 1936 and to the creation of the American Institute of Public Opinion. The winner of that year at the election, Roosevelt was the first president, who began to regularly receive the results of surveys conducted in the country.
Guidelines used by the U.S. Institute of surveys should primarily to search for ways to improve the system of social control: surveys to help detect the size and scope of discontent, and facilitate the adjustment of means to influence American popular consciousness. Among them are all kinds of surveys, especially closed, i.e. results of which are known only to customers.
In today’s environment, it is important to study and take into account the mental state, I mean the political mood of the masses. Public opinion surveys provide an opportunity to consider not only lie on the surface but hidden psychological tendencies of political processes, and accordingly to them choose those activities that would be adequate to the situation.
Discovering the state and dynamics of public opinion – it means to perform the basic requirements for a correct political decision. After all, as is it is well known in the struggle for power, each political group seeking to win the sympathy of society, and therefore the transformation of truth is easily and imperceptibly.
The researcher in the field of media Englishman James Bryce at the end of the last century, published a book “The American Republic”, which revealed the mechanisms of influence on public opinion in the U.S. Initially constructed “plurality opinion” using the facts or a story to arouse in the human soul the feeling that by itself flows from the mouth, creating the impression that the facts speak for all the favorites.
On the second phase, the newspapers (evening and morning) expressed more than a definite opinion about the event, providing its “expected results” and, thus, the views of ordinary citizens are beginning to congeal into a solid mass. In the third stage – in the debates and disputes – dropped unneeded arguments in favor of one specific and unchangeable decision. The fourth stage – is the introduction of facts or assess events that are passed off as “the prevailing belief” as “people’s propensity to unanimity” in the interests of ordinary citizens.
The entire process of handling public opinion was compared with the effect of the rink on the way, when the angularity is squeezed, and the road becomes smooth and even gets kind of monotonous.
