My major is 2D animation. I want to be an animator because I want to create new games for people. And I hope they will continue to play them for many years. That is my dream. I will attempt to make every moment as amazing as possible.
If I wish to get the best animator job it is necessary for me to know all the similarities of currently open job listings. I have made some research work. That is what I have found out.
There companies – Next Gen Console Games ( http://www.creativeheads.net/JobDetails.aspx?JobID=10536), CCP White Wolf (http://www.bullhornreach.com/job/68508_senior-gameplay-animator-atlanta-ga) and the main game development company in Central Europe, 2K Czech (http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=26786&accountno=362) are looking for senior animator.
These organizations are in search of senior animator with skills in creating unique animations.
Senior gameplay animator will have certain responsibilities:
work with animation director, animators, and designers;
collaborate with programmers on creating new systems for animations realization;
assist in defining needs for pipeline;
demonstrate ability with motion capture animation and key-frame.
Senior animation should be capable to work in a team and provide mentoring to other less experienced animators. Knowledge of at least one animation software package, animating realistic human characters and written and oral communication skills are also required. These are the similarities between the requirements for the position at different companies. As for the differences, it should be mentioned, that they are not very distinct. Yes, all companies want to hire senior animator with certain experience. But for some organizations it will be 2 years of experience and for others at least five years of experience with an emphasis on character animation. Candidates must have a US work permit or must communicate in English if they wish to work as freelancers. Some companies also want to see enthusiasm and strong interest in video games.
To demonstrate own skills, knowledge and abilities candidates have to send their CV in English and demo reel demonstrating animation ability.
Sum up, it may be said that three above mentioned companies wish to work with experienced, talented, English-speaking and enthusiastic senior animators.
There is a rising demand for animators overall. There are lots of places that animation is becoming a huge part of. Our world is becoming a media based place and there are opportunities forthcoming for professional animators.
The traditional animation is coming back now. 2D animation is a fascinating place to discover new styles. People are creating the best 2D lately that has ever been done before. So, I think there will always be a job for all animators. It is the content and story that makes something really interesting not the tools used to create it. And I am so excited that soon I’ll become a part of this industry.
