Custom essays on World hunger

Today on our planet there are more hungry people than ever – more than 1 billion – that is one of six people are starving. Time to achieve the first objective of the UN Millennium Development Goals aimed at halving the number of hungry people by 2015 – making a total of five years from now – is inexorably approaching.
But I’m an optimist. I am convinced that once again we will make progress, and that overcoming hunger and malnutrition will be the in the past. Victory for the States, the private sector, farmers, and of course for a large number of hungry people.
In fact, many countries have shown that the problem of hunger can be solved. Think about their own families, how many of them did not know what is hunger? A few generations ago the families in Ireland suffered from hunger. But now the famine in Ireland does not threaten anybody. China, Brazil, Rwanda, El Salvador, Vietnam, Malawi is now firmly in the positive direction of changing statistics of hunger. In all these cases, the first and the turning point in addressing the problem of hunger is the moment when the leader of a country announces “I will not tolerate this” and then puts one of the main issues on the agenda of food security. And then we can finally solve the problem of people suffering from extreme hunger and malnutrition.
There is a good saying: “If a single person in a country is cold or hungry, the leader is at fault”. Do you agree with this?
But there is another good quote by mother Teresa: “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”
The United Nations Organization estimates, that practically all countries have the potential that allow them to produce enough food to meet the needs of its population. As in 2008 about 54 states of the world (mostly those in Africa) were not able to feed its citizens. In this case the financial value of programs that will solve the problem of hunger in the world is very important, though the cost of it is relatively small. According to UN Development Program it requires no more than $13 billion a year.
Let me say a short story about the World Food Program, the UN agency that is on the front line against hunger.
The World Food Program of UNO was established by the states around the world in partnership to act against hunger and malnutrition. Last year it delivered 30 billion foods to about 100 million people in 70 countries. The organization has at the forefront of working 15 000 dedicated people.
I also would like to tell you about the World Day Against Hunger that is celebrated annually on October 16 in commemoration of the establishment in 1945 of the Organization of the UN Food and Agriculture (FAO). The purpose of World Day against Hunger – to raise public awareness about the plight of those who are hungry and malnourished, and to support people around the world in the fight against hunger. This event is celebrated annually in more than 150 countries. In the U.S., the World Day Against Hunger is sponsored by 450 national private voluntary organizations, and local activist groups operating in almost every local community.( Food and Agriculture Organization. 2009)
