MY REACTION TO THE ARTICLE

I think that the article Social Justice and Social Work written by Leroy H. Pelton is worth reading and analyzing, because it gives opportunity to realize the major mission of social work what is very important for any future social worker. I think that most of the author’s ideas concerning social justice are true. It is clear that if a person has a great desire to help others in need, to solve their problems and to make their lives better, he should treat his clients equally. That is why a good social worker should have appropriate traits of character including kindness, honesty, and responsibility. He should respect human dignity and defend human rights and social justice. Leroy H. Pelton focuses his attention on social justice in social work. I completely agree with the author, because it is impossible to help people in need without following the major principles of social work. Social workers are ready to help homeless and sick, children and elderly people. That is why it is vital to be just in all types of their activities including implementation of different social programs and policies.
I think it is necessary to pay attention to all the groups of individuals in need including needy children and their mothers, disabled people, veterans and needy elderly people. And, of course, we should not divide the poor into needy white people and needy black people. Only in this case, social work will be successful. Those people who are in need should get equal protection. All the needy children should get benefits. That is why it is necessary to develop social policies and programs in a proper way, in order to avoid violation of human rights. The first principle of a just society, nondiscrimination, should be taken into consideration by all social scientists who develop new social policies and programs.
THE USE OF INFORMATION FROM THE ARTICLE IN MY SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE
I am sure that the information represented in the article Social Justice and Social Work will help me in my social work practice, no matter what type of social service I will choose. It is known that the scope of social work practice is rather wide. It includes not only social service agencies, schools, hospitals, but also courts and business organizations. I know that it is necessary to follow the major principle of social work in any area of social work practice. Social justice should be taken into consideration in any case. I am sure that I will succeed in my future social work practice, because I have appropriate skills and responsibilities which are necessary for any social worker. I have enough knowledge concerning human relationships, which are based on nondiscrimination and social justice. Moreover, I’ll try to solve not only the individual’s social problems, but also I’ll try to change his environment.
