Reflection paper

I would like to prepare my future speech in the best way that is why it is necessary to use different facts from the internet documents. Taking into account the fact that my original topic is about 2012 and how the end of the world will going to begin I found two articles on similar topic. Thus, I would like to analyze them and explain their necessity for my future speech.
For the beginning of this paper it is necessary to mention that there is a lot of agiotage around the date of the supposed Doomsday in 2012. This date scare people and many of them believe that it will be the end of our planet and all people will die exactly in this day. The first article has a title Will the World End in 2012? and was written by Christine Brouwer in 2008 and the second article has a title It’s Not the End of the World: What the Ancient Maya Tell US About 2012 and was written by Mark Van Stone. Both articles explain their readers unbelievable facts about the end of the world from different points of view. For example, Brouwer used in her article people’s opinions about the end of the world in 2012 and demonstrated why people think in such way. According to Brouwer’s words, we see that “really, it’s a conversion of people’s anxieties about our times, and finding some remote mythological precedent or prediction of it… People like to believe that ancient wisdom is somehow predicting this time of upheaval.” (Brouwer, 2008)
Another article analyzed the Maya calendar as a source of Doomsday prediction and described its influence on our life and minds. Listening to this argument we should remember that Maya worshiped numbers. They believed that their mission was to transfer secret knowledge about the order of the Universe, its numerological code and cycle to descendants. They numbered every day, every hour and created own calendar that, unfortunately, will over in 2012. Interruption of numerological order meant for Maya a break of Life and they predicted the end basing on this fact. Stone’s article allows us to plunge into the problem of the end of the world with more details and understand it. Stone stated that “Maya Scholars, in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador and North America, have been watching with amusement and dismay as self-styled experts proclaim that ancient Maya prophets foretold an earth-shattering happening to occur December 21, 2012.” (Stone, 2007) Interpreting this fact author added that “this predicted phenomenon gets described in contradictory but often cataclysmic fashion – as an ecological collapse, a sunspot storm, a rare cosmic conjunction of the earth, sun, and the galactic center, a new and awesome stage of our evolution, and even a sudden reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field which will erase all our computer drives.” (Stone, 2007)
Observing information presented in both articles I want to say that it will help me to be professional in judgments about future catastrophe and reflect not only scientific position in relate to 2012, but also pay specific attention on people’s opinions and thoughts about future disaster.
On my opinion articles’ authors thoughts should be accepted as credible sources on my speech topic, because Brouwer and Stone made their own researches in discussed area and presented facts with all necessary details and explanations. I like both articles and they seem to be useful for my speech as theoretical facts about Maya calendar and their predictions in combination with common people thoughts.
For the conclusion it is necessary to say that the topic about 2012 and the end of the world is very interesting for all people and that is why it has so disputable character. I strongly believe that the internet documents discussed in this paper will help me to create not only interesting, but also very informative speech.
