Just about everyone faces a situation in which one writing problem creates another. The best rewriting method in this case is the simplest: by correcting one problem you chip away at the others. Again, take wordiness. Many wordy business writers also use tired expressions. Ax away extra words, and you also enliven your writing. You should still spot-check for humdrum words and phrases. But you will find only an eighth of the original number.
