BACKGROUND
Acid rain, a form of pollution caused by the combination of nitrogen dioxide, sulfur, and atmospheric moisture, can occur as rain, snow, hail, or fog. Scientists agree that acid rain damages the environment, but they disagree as to the severity of the problem.
