The main purpose of this paper is to discuss obesity and its main characteristics. Nowadays many scientists and researchers consider obesity a disease of our century, because last statistical data show on this fact with great numbers. This paper will describe obesity and tell about its main characteristics and negative sides. It will include summarizing of opinions of different scientists about this question that will help to understand this disease from medical point of view.
Obesity is a not simply cosmetic problem, because it has in many cases medical character. Obesity is not fatal diagnosis, but scientists consider that this disease can change our life in a fast way and it caused different hard diseases and problems in our life. According to web source information given by National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases we see that “obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much. The weight may come from muscle, bone, fat and/or body water. Both terms mean that a person’s weight is greater than what’s considered healthy for his or her height.
Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might tip the balance include your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods and not being physically active.”
Defining this term we should mention that obesity is a contemporary disease, the victory steps of which we see every day on streets, at work, and, unfortunately, in family, when you or your relatives begin to notice that the forms of body become not such slender, as before. Most frightful facts that with superfluous kilograms such problems, as saccharine diabetes, arterial high blood pressure, varicose illness, arthrosis, atherosclerosis of vessels, even oncologic diseases enter in our life and try to stay in it for a long time.
Saying about obesity’s dangerous moments it is necessary to note that obesity is insidious disease, and it has many reasons of the origin of its inherited predisposition, social level; psychological problems are both stresses and wrong way of life, low physical activity and, certainly, excessive use of fat food. As a result, through the system of difficult biochemical reactions, the amount of fatty tissue is increased in an organism.
No doubt, that it is very important to know why obesity appeared, and how to prevent its appearance, but majority recollect suddenly, when obesity problem is already present and it is time to begin obesity’s treatment. And if it becomes clearly for people, only looking in a mirror, which reflects far forms, doctors do not get tired to emphasize that without valuable treatment of obesity you doom itself on development of nasty chronic illnesses and, in final analysis, diminishing of life-span, which, can be such wonderful.
Negative sides of obesity is found in its dangerous influence on human organism and data of the last years clarify that conservative treatment of obesity can be successful, only if conducted complex includes the special diets, medications and regular physical exercises. But also in the case of good result there always is probability that weight will return back to an initial level, if you will not survive and will give indulgence for own body, because at once it is needed to accept for a rule that treatment of obesity is a lifelong process.
Presently in the civilized countries, where free access to the meal has the majority of population, the processes of accumulation of surplus fat in an organism have genetically predisposed persons (and such people consist majority) acquires continuously making progress character. It is hard to control own wish to eat delicious meal, because meal is one of the natural sources of enjoying, removal of stress and other. It becomes obvious that many people, who have dangerous habit to the frequent overeating, especially high-calorie food and like passive way of life, one day can be diagnosed with obesity.
Thus, based on above discussed information about obesity we can conclude that obesity is real problem of today’s society that should be solved as soon as possible. Defining this term in the previous information we see that obesity is a pathosis, characterized by the increase of body mass due to a surplus lipopexia in an organism. Summarizing all information about obesity’s main causes we can quote the next information: “the balance between calorie intake and energy expenditure determines a person’s weight. If a person eats more calories than he or she burns (metabolizes), the person gains weight (the body will store the excess energy as fat). If a person eats fewer calories than he or she metabolizes, he or she will lose weight. Therefore the most common causes of obesity are overeating and physical inactivity. At present, we know that there are many factors that contribute to obesity, some of which have a genetic component” (http://www.medicinenet.com/obesity_weight_loss/article.htm). The main idea of this paper was to attract attention to obesity’s problems and emphasized that it is not only cosmetic problem, but real disease that take away many people lives. Primary purposes of treatment of obesity are a decline of development of number of concomitant pathologies and increase of patient’s life-span.
